Ibarretxe in Brussels to discuss further backing for role of regions in European Union
Meeting with Committee of the Regions (CoR) President Luc Van den Brande followed by Musikene concert
On the first day of his visit to Brussels, the Basque Regional President met President of the Regions Luc Van den Brande, to talk about the role of Europes regions in the EU framework.

In Brussels at the same time as the regional president were his regional Education, Universities & Research minister Tontxu Campos and regional minister for Culture Miren Azkarate, who are taking part as representatives of all Spain's autonomous communities in the Council of European Ministers of Education, Youth & Culture.

After the meeting with head of the Committee of the Regions, Ibarretxe and regional ministers Tontxu Campos and Miren Azkarate presided over a concert given by Basque Chamber Orchestra Musikene to mark the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

Directed by José Luis Estellés, the Basque orchestra offered interpretations of works by Ravel, Stravinsky and Beethoven, playing to a near full house. Music lovers at the concert included European Commissioner Joaquin Almunia, the Flemish Government's regional minister for Foreign Affairs, Geert Bourgeois and a large group of diplomats and representatives from European regions.
